Life Saver Headband

Materials:
Any worsted weight 100% cotton yarn
I used Peaches & Creme Olive
Size US 7 needles
tapestry needle

Directions:

CO 15 stitches or # of stitches divisible by 2 + 1

Knit 5 Rows

Row 6: *p2tog, yo, repeat from * until the last stitch, p1

Row 7-9: Knit

Row 10: Purl

Row 11-13: Knit

Repeat Rows 6 – 13 until the headband measures about 15 inches, depending on the size of your noggin. You want the headband to stretch and be a little tight.

Bind off.

Sew the cast on edge to the bind off edge.

Dash Cloth

Any worsted weight 100% cotton yarn in 2 colors
I used Peaches & Creme Fiesta(MC) and Black(CC).
Size US 7 needles
tapestry needle

Special Directions:

Slip stitches should be purlwise

Directions:

Cast on 39 stitches with MC

Knit 4 rows for the border.

Row 1: Knit

Row 2: K2, P until the last two stitches, K2

Row 3: Knit

Row 4: K2, P until the last two stitches, K2

Attach CC yarn.

Row 5: Knit

Row 6: Knit

Row 7: (MC) Knit

Row 8: K2, P until the last two stitches, K2

Row 9: (CC) *K3, slip 1, repeat from * until the last 3 stitches, K3

Row 10: *K3, yf, slip 1, yb, repeat from * until last 3 stitches, K3

Row 11 – Row 14: Repeat Rows 7 – 10

Row 15: (MC) Knit

Row 16: K2, P until the last two stitches, K2

Repeat Rows 5 – 16 two more times

Knit 2 rows with CC.

Cut CC yarn.

Repeat Rows 1-4

Knit 4 border rows.

Bind Off and Weave in Ends.

Broad Stripes and Bright Stars

Materials:
Any worsted weight 100% cotton yarn in red, white and blue
Size US 7 needles
tapestry needle

Special Instructions:

P3tog = Purl 3 stitches from the left needle together.

yrn = yarn round right needle like a yarn over

Directions:

Cast on 38 stitches with red or # of stitches divisible by 3sts + 2

Row 1: Knit

Row 2: K1, *p3tog leaving the three stitches on the left needle, yrn, purl those 3 original stitches together again and let them fall of the left needle, repeat from * until the last stitch, K1

Attach white yarn to your work.

Row 3: Knit

Row 4: Knit

Repeat these 4 rows five more times.

Repeat rows 1 and 2.

Cut red yarn.
Attach blue yarn to your work.

With the blue yarn, repeat Rows 3 and 4.

Now repeat Rows 1-4 five more times, the white yarn for Rows 1 and 2 and the blue yarn for Rows 3 and 4. The final Row 4 will not be knit because it should be bound off.

Weave in Ends.

Playful Plaid Cloth

Inspired by a stitch found in “The Harmony Guides”

Materials:
Any worsted weight 100% cotton yarn in 2 colors
Size US 7 needles
tapestry needle

Special Instructions:

KW2 = Knit one stitch wrapping the yarn around the needle twice.

The MC is carried up the side of the work when working with the CC until you need it again. For instructions on how to do this, watch Lion Brand Yarn’s how to video.

All slipped stitches are purlwise.

Directions:

Cast on 50 stitches with MC or # of stitches divisible by 8sts + 6, with 4 additional stitches for the border. Ex. This cloth is 46 stitches for the pattern plus 4 border stitches = 50.

Row 1: knit (RS)

Row 2: knit

Attach CC to your work.

Row 3: With CC, k3, sl1, k2, sl1, * k4, sl1, k2, sl1, repeat from * to last 3 stitches, k3

Row 4: k2, p1, sl1, p2, sl1, * p4, sl1, p2, sl1, repeat from * to last 3 stitches, p1, k2

Row 5: With MC, knit

Row 6: k3, KW2, k2, KW2, * k4, KW2, k2, KW2, repeat from * to last 3 stitches, k3

Row 7: With CC (dropping all extra stitches from the KW2 when slipping stitches in this row), k3, sl1, k2, sl1, * k4, sl1, k2, sl1, repeat from * to the last 3 stitches, k3

Carry the MC up the side of the work for the next 5 rows.

Row 8: k2, p1, sl1, p2, sl1, * p4, sl1, p2, sl1, repeat from * to last 3 stitches, p1, k2

Row 9: k3, sl1, k2, sl1, * k4, sl1, k2, sl1, repeat from * to last 3 stitches, k3

Row 10: k2, p1, sl1, p2, sl1, * p4, sl1, p2, sl1, repeat from * to last 3 stitches, p1, k2

Row 11: k3, sl1, k2, sl1, * k4, sl1, k2, sl1, repeat from * to last 3 stitches, k3

Christmas Cloth Pattern

Inspired by a stitch found in “The Illustrated Guide to Knitting” written by Pam Dawson

Materials:
Any worsted weight 100% cotton yarn
Size US 6 or 7 needles
tapestry needle

Directions:

Cast on 45 stitches or # of stitches divisible by 10+7, with 8 additional stitches for the border. Ex. This cloth is 37 stitches for the pattern plus 8 border stitches = 45.

Knit 4 rows.
Row 1: K10, *yarn forward, sl 5 purlwise, yarn back, K5, repeat from * to last five stitches, K5

Row2: K4, P37, K4

Repeat Rows 1 and 2 three more times.

Row 9: K12, *insert right hand needle under the four long slip stitches, wrap yarn around the needle and draw through a stitch, then keeping that stitch on the right hand needle K the next stitch on the left hand needle. Pass the wrap around stitch over the K1 (make butterfly), K9, repeat from * one more time, make butterfly, K12
Row 10: K4, P37, K4

Row 11: *K5, yarn forward, sl 5 purlwise, yarn back, repeat from * to last five stitches, K5
Row 12: K4, P37, K4

Repeat Rows 11 and 12 three more times.

Row 19: K7, make butterfly, *K9, make butterfly, repeat from * to last 7 stitches, K7
Row 20: K4, P37, K4

Repeat these 20 rows two more times.

Knit 4 or 5 Rows.
Bind Off.
Weave in Ends.
